One of the important objectives of prison ministry is the coming alive of an indigenous body of believers. This is the normal response to a ministry of discipleship with individual inmates. Jesus Christ commissioned His disciples “to go and make disciples" —- not just converts.
As disciples grow spiritually in God‘s Word they begin to reach out to like-minded believers for fellowship. They usually are active in the prison chapel services, and often share their testimonies with non-believers. We often receive reports of Bible study groups being held on prison yards. This is the indigenous church in action.
